A Journey of Love Across Borders

Melanie and Rafael’s love story began in Melbourne in late 2019, just weeks after they both arrived in Australia. Melanie had moved with her sister, eager to build a new life and improve her English, while Rafael had only recently landed as well. Their paths crossed on a dating app, and after a few days of chatting, they decided to meet at a bar called Shabby on December 7. That night, everything clicked. They laughed, connected over shared interests like traveling, and discovered how naturally their lives fit together.

From then on, weekends became theirs, full of time spent together, building a bond that quickly grew strong. But in early 2020, their relationship faced its first big test: both had to complete farm work in different parts of Queensland. Then COVID-19 hit, making visits nearly impossible. Despite the distance, they stayed in touch and encouraged each other. The challenges only made their connection stronger.

By early 2022, Melanie and Rafael were finally living together in Melbourne. They shared not just a home, but also responsibilities, splitting bills, cooking, and supporting each other through everyday life. They made time for little joys, like surprising one another with gifts or planning retreats. Their love was both practical and full of care.

Later that year, Rafael’s new job took him to Adelaide, and though it meant time apart, Melanie soon followed. Together, they embraced a new chapter, moving into shared houses, exploring South Australia, and even traveling overseas—to New Zealand, Fiji, and Byron Bay, creating lasting memories.

Their relationship wasn’t without hardships. In 2024, Rafael suffered an injury and had ACL surgery. Melanie stayed by his side from morning until night, caring for him through recovery. It was a reminder of their commitment, that in tough times, they stand strong for each other.

Today, after years of living, growing, and traveling together, Melanie and Rafael share a home in Brompton. Their bond has only deepened with time. Melanie admires Rafael’s thoughtfulness and resilience, while Rafael values Melanie’s strength, warmth, and support.
