New Student Visa Application Rules

The Department of Home Affairs has introduced new rules for Student visa (subclass 500) applications, effective 2 October 2026.

These changes affect when family members can be included in a Student visa application, where certain applicants must lodge their applications, and where they must be when their visa is granted.

What’s Changing?

Effective 2 October 2026:

🔹 Including Family Members – Restrictions apply to when family members can be included in a student visa application.

🔹 Where You Can Apply – In certain circumstances, applicants will be required to lodge their student visa applications from outside Australia.

🔹 Location at the Time of Visa Grant – Some applicants who are required to apply from outside Australia must also be outside Australia when their visa is granted.

These changes may affect the timing and location of your application, as well as how you plan your studies and family arrangements.
