The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed the ongoing flexibility of Condition 8107, offering a much-needed relief to many visa holders navigating post-pandemic transitions in Australia.

What’s the Update?
Subclass 408 (COVID-19 Pandemic Event) visa holders can continue to enjoy relaxed work conditions under Condition 8107, which usually restricts employment to one approved employer.
What does this mean in practice?
You can change employers freely
Work multiple jobs, or
Even be self-employed— without needing to notify the Department.
Who Else Benefits?
This flexibility has also been extended to Bridging Visa A (BVA) holders who previously held a COVID-408 visa with Condition 8107. If you're on a BVA following your 408 visa, you still have the same freedom to work under this relaxed policy.
Why This Matters
Originally introduced as a temporary measure during the COVID-19 pandemic, this continued flexibility reflects the Department’s evolving stance toward a more adaptable and worker-friendly migration system.
Thanks to sustained advocacy by the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) and other stakeholders, thousands of workers can now maintain employment or seek new opportunities—without unnecessary red tape.
What You Should Do
If you're a current or former 408 visa holder with Condition 8107, and now on a BVA—you don’t need to apply for a change of employer or submit notifications. Just keep working in your preferred role(s) with confidence.
Stay tuned for further updates as Australia’s migration policies continue to adjust to support both skilled migrants and the economy.
