Important Update: Ballot System for Second and Third Working Holiday Visas

2 min read

Planning to apply for your second or third Working Holiday Visa in Australia? An important change is coming for applicants under the subclass 417 and subclass 462 visa programs.

A ballot system will be introduced for second and third year Working Holiday Visas, with a capped number of places available for each year. This means applicants will need to be aware of the new arrangements when planning their next visa application.

While the ballot system introduces a new step in the process, applicants will still need to meet the existing regional work requirements to qualify for their second or third visa.

What’s Changing?

Under the new arrangements:

🎟️ Second Year Visa – Places will be capped at 45,000.

🎟️ Third Year Visa – Places will be capped at 5,000.

These caps will apply to the ballot system for second and third year visas under the subclass 417 (Working Holiday) and subclass 462 (Work and Holiday) visa programs.

What This Means for Employers?

If you are planning to apply for your second or third Working Holiday Visa, it is important to understand how the ballot system may affect your plans.

Applicants should continue to ensure they meet the existing regional work requirements and stay informed about the latest application procedures, ballot arrangements, and eligibility criteria.

Planning ahead and understanding the requirements can help you prepare for the next stage of your Australian working holiday journey.
