Legislative Update – New English Language Test Providers Added

The Department has added new English test options for certain visa applications.

You can now use:

• CELPIP General – Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program

• LANGUAGECERT Academic

• MET – Michigan English Test

Other changes:

• IELTS now includes both General Training and Academic.

• CAE is now called Cambridge Advanced Test (C1 Advanced).

• English rules for the Student visa (Subclass 500) have been updated under the new LIN 25/090 instrument.

Important Date – 7 August 2025

From 7 August 2025, the rules for English test scores and providers will change. There will be two sets of rules depending on when the test was taken:

• Test taken before 7 August 2025

The old test scores and providers will still apply, even if the visa application is lodged after 7 August 2025.

• Test taken on or after 7 August 2025

The new test scores and providers in the updated instrument will apply.
