NSW’s 2026–27 Skilled Migration Program Is Now Open

New opportunities are available for skilled migrants interested in receiving state nomination in New South Wales, with the 2026–27 NSW Skilled Migration Program now underway.

The NSW Government has opened its Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190) nomination program and released an updated NSW Skills List for the current program year.

For applicants considering this pathway, reviewing the updated occupation list and ensuring your SkillSelect Expression of Interest (EOI) is accurate and up to date are important steps towards being considered for NSW nomination.

However, applicants interested in the Skilled Work Regional visa (Subclass 491) should note that NSW nomination pathways for this visa remain closed to new applicants.

What’s Changing?

For the 2026–27 program year:

🔹 Subclass 190 Program Now Open – NSW is accepting candidates for consideration under its Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190) program.

🔹 Updated NSW Skills List – The state has released an updated list identifying eligible occupation groups for Subclass 190 nomination, reflecting the state's current workforce needs and skills priorities.

🔹 SkillSelect EOI Updates – Applicants should review their existing Expression of Interest and ensure all details, including qualifications, employment history, English proficiency, and points claims, are accurate and supported by valid evidence.

🔹 Subclass 491 Pathways Remain Closed – NSW is not currently accepting new applicants under any of its Subclass 491 nomination pathways. Further updates will be provided when available.

What This Means for Skilled Migration Applicants?

If you are planning to pursue skilled migration through New South Wales, it is important to check whether your nominated occupation appears on the updated NSW Skills List and whether you meet the relevant state and visa eligibility requirements.

Unlike some other state nomination programs, NSW uses a selection-based invitation process. Applicants cannot directly apply for state nomination without receiving an invitation.

To prepare, you should ensure your SkillSelect EOI is current, your skills assessment remains valid, and you have supporting documents available for the claims made in your EOI.

Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee an invitation, as NSW nomination is highly competitive and selection is at the discretion of the NSW Government.
