South Australia’s Skilled Migration ROI Is Now Open

South Australia has opened its Registration of Interest (ROI) process for eligible skilled migrants as part of its 2026–27 General Skilled Migration program.
Announced on 22 October 2026, this update provides an opportunity for individuals currently living and working in South Australia whose visas are due to expire by 31 January 2027 to express their interest in state nomination, subject to the relevant eligibility requirements.
Meanwhile, offshore candidates can continue to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect without submitting an ROI to South Australia.
Understanding the application process, eligibility requirements, and priority sectors can help skilled migrants prepare for their next steps.
What’s Changing?
Under South Australia’s current skilled migration arrangements:
🔹 ROI Now Open for Eligible Onshore Applicants – Individuals living and working in South Australia whose current visas expire by 31 January 2027 may be eligible to submit an ROI, provided they meet the relevant requirements.
🔹 Offshore Applicants Can Continue Through SkillSelect – Candidates living outside Australia can submit an EOI through SkillSelect without lodging an ROI. Suitable candidates may be invited directly based on their EOI.
🔹 Priority Industry Sectors – South Australia will focus on candidates working in building and construction, defence, education, engineering, health, and manufacturing. High-ranking candidates in other sectors may also be considered.
All applicants must have a current EOI lodged through SkillSelect.
What This Means for Skilled Migration Applicants
If you are currently living and working in South Australia and your visa is approaching expiry, this update may be relevant to your migration plans.
Before submitting an ROI, you should check that your occupation is available under the 2026–27 Skilled Occupation List and that you meet the requirements of the relevant nomination stream.
If you are applying from offshore, you can continue to express your interest through SkillSelect and wait for a possible invitation from South Australia.
Please note that submitting an ROI or EOI does not guarantee an invitation, state nomination, or visa approval. Applicants must meet the applicable eligibility criteria, and invitations depend on South Australia's selection process and program priorities.
