The Australian Government has given Tasmania and Western Australia a small number of skilled visa nomination places for now. This is called an interim allocation, and it will help clear applications while the final 2025–26 numbers are still being decided.
Tasmania
Tasmania has received 165 places (85 for Subclass 190 visas and 80 for Subclass 491 visas).
These spots will be used to confirm provisionally approved applicants from last year’s program (2024–25).
Everyone with a provisionally approved 491 visa will get nominated.
For the 190 visa, there are fewer spots, so priority goes to applicants who are:
Already in Australia, and
Whose visas are about to expire or who hold a bridging visa.
Others will need to wait until the full 2025–26 allocation is announced.
The new program is not yet open for new Registrations of Interest (ROIs).
Western Australia
Western Australia has also been given a small interim allocation.
The Government will use this to finish processing leftover applications from 2024–25.
Because the number of spots is very limited, the 2025–26 program will not open yet.
It will only open once the Commonwealth Government gives the full allocation.
What This Means
For now, both states are focusing on clearing old applications, not accepting new ones.If you are already provisionally approved, this is good news. If you want to apply fresh, you’ll need to wait for the full allocations to be released.
